Ladies and Gentlemen, the table of contents for Heartless: Cold Hands! Just reposting this because I moved it out of the page. =P
So, this is it. The last post relating to Cold Hands. This is basically a bonus post to reward all you faithful readers who stuck with my story. =P Enjoy. 🙂
First things first, a dedication is in order. I hereby dedicate Cold Hands to Anna. We started our relationship roughly at the same time I posted the first chapter of Cold Hands, and just recently celebrated our first year anniversary. Thus I think it is apt to dedicate this novel to her.

And that’s Cold Hands! Hope you enjoyed. If you haven’t already, check out some of the extra content!
Warning: This is a depressing and cynical poem with a very dark undertone. If this will disturb or in any way upset you, I highly recommend you do not read on.
For those that have read on, this is a poem I wrote for Cold Hands. Yes, believe it or not, this does pertain to the story of Cold Hands. Also don’t trust first appearances. I know what it might appear to be talking about, but that might not necessarily be the case. Study the meter and determine for yourself.
I’m a living target that you can fire at
Cut me up to bits and burn me
All your words and fear don’t hurt me
If you need to hit me, I’m here for you to get
Come and slice me up any day
I am the victim anyway
Touch my beating heart with your stone cold hands
Freeze my soul with your icy eyes
Fool my mind with your tempting lies
Break my iron will with your arms of steel
Crush my spirit under your stride
Kill the person that lives inside
So, since we’ve set the mood for the day with frenemies with my last post (completely coincidental, I promise), let’s continue more along that line. This is a post in response to the Beautiful People link-up hosted at Paper Fury and Further Up and Further In. I am, of course, doing the August edition which happens to be the twelfth one in their series. This month the theme is on friendship, but because I wanted to focus on a relationship between my characters that the story actually focuses on, and since it’s always good to mix things up a little bit, I’ve decided to talk about the (not)-friendship that M and Anna have from Cold Hands. Enjoy. =P
1. How long have they known each other, and how close are they?
Blast. This is one I have to go back and look at the story for. *humming* Two months and sixteen days. That took forever to find. XP They are close in a mono-directional kind of way. M knows a whole ton about Anna, but she knows barely anything about him. Apart from that, there is no closeness between them.
2. What’s their earliest memory of being best friends?
lol. Here’s where going the route I chose is not the best idea. They were never best friends, but their earliest memory of being worst enemies would be when M killed Foster probably. That’s when Anna saw him for who he truly is
3. Do they fight? How long do they typically fight for?
Yes. They fight. A lot. And it’s not just arguing too. I’m talking about actual physical altercations that usually end up with Anna getting beaten up. The fights never really last that long though. Morpheus has a way of dissembling both attacks and defenses in a matter of moments.
4. Are their personalities similar or do they compliment each other?
They complEment each other. Sorry. Just had to correct that. XP No way their personalities are similar. Anna is compassionate and fiery. She’s very impulsive and disinclined to take someone’s opinion over her own. Morpheus is calm and collected, cold and impossible to read. Then again, both characters are extremely determined, and they are similar in the ruthlessness they will go to to gain their ends, though Anna does prefer the ethical route.
5. Who is the leader of their friendship (if anyone)?
There is no leader to their “friendship” and never will be. =P Morpheus is not cut out to be a leader, but he is also insubordinate, and works best on his own. On the other hand, while Anna does have the quality to be a leader, she needs to control her impulses before she’ll be a good one. And she is the last person M would submit to.
6. Do have any secrets from each other?
Yes and no. Anna doesn’t really have any secret that M doesn’t know. On the other hand, Morpheus has a million and one secrets which Anna still is trying to figure out.
7. How well do they know each other’s quirks and habits?
In the beginning Morpheus was the one imbued with knowledge. However, after their experiences with other, Anna has gotten a fairly strong read on M. Despite this, she can never truly make up her mind about him.
8. What kind of things do they like to do together?
They don’t particularly “like” to do anything together, but they have done a lot of things together. Mostly this involves looking out for the group, though after most of the group disappeared, that dissolved too.
9. Describe each character’s fashion style (use pictures if you’d like!) How are their styles different/similar?
Fashion style?? Oh my word. XP It is an apocalyptic novel, so I won’t go with their current state of dress, which for Anna would be a tattered shirt with torn up pants, and for M would be sans shirt with similar pants. In times of peace and such, Anna, while not hyper-stylish, being a bit of a tomboy, prefers tighter clothing, loathes skirts and dresses of any kind, and would just as much romp around in jeans and a light blouse as she would in cargo shorts and a tank top. Morpheus on the other hand, while of a military cut, was always involved in a special section of the military, and thus dresses with a cross between casual and utilitarian.
10. How would their lives be different without each other?
Anna would know a lot less, and would probably be a slave to the UDA. Morpheus would not be as introspective as he has been. And as will be seen later on in the story, will– Gah. There’s just so many things it’s impossible to list. Basically M’s character would never have changed the way it has and Anna’s situation would be a lot worse than it is. Despite being enemies, they really do affect each other for good.
And that’s it! Hope you enjoyed. (Also, I spent forever getting that button to work, so make good use of it. XP)
Alright, so I did one of these a long time ago, and I decided it’s time I did another one. This is a poll for who your favorite character(s) is/are from my current WIP novels. Note: I probably missed a bunch of characters from The Dark Menace because the cast in that story is huge. Also, you don’t need to have read all my stories, or even be up to date on any of them. Just, if you recognize a character that you liked, place a vote for him/her. I’m curious who you guys like.
Looking forward to the results! 🙂
Sooo, what in the world is all this about? You might ask. Well, remember how I did the first and last lines of the stories I’ve completed? Well,
as a sort of advertising campaign, I’ve decided to do the “best” quotes from my current stories. There are quotes around best because one of the quotes isn’t actually the best, but I made it a point to have at least one quote from the main character per story. Enjoy, and hopefully these intrigue you enough to go and check my stories out. 🙂
The weak are conquered by the strong, and the crafty take advantage of the naive. Whilst one conquers by force, the other conquers by deception. Tell me, which is the foe greater to be feared?
– Richard Homling
So, yep, Richard is the main character for The Dark Menace, which is a science fiction novel staged in a galaxy of my own creation. It is going to be, by far, the longest story I have ever written, and is very much a work in progress, though there is substantial reading material currently available.
Time is a dangerous subject.
In everyone lies a story, some just never get told.
Our job as storytellers is not to force the story into our mould. We create the story to be sure, and we end it, but what happens between then is merely guided. On occasion, you will find that the story develops itself, and it can take paths you did not intend.
– The Storyteller
To me, The Storyteller has a special place in my heart because it is almost a parallel to what us actual writers/authors do, only with the spin that storytelling is now a super-power. Staged in a medieval world of fantasy, wrought with magic and the like, Philip, the protagonist (and the one with the lame quote), must travel on a journey to hunt down and defeat a mysterious being, the Executioner.
Lord– It is a troubled age that we live in. You know, God, that we are surrounded by trials and tribulations. Friends fall all around us, yet I know that with faith in You, we will stay strong.
– Anna Flyer
Okay, okay, I’m sorry I wasted a bullet.
It’s a cold world. A world like this calls for cold action.
Cold Hands is a lot more than an apocalyptic novel, as the most recent chapter of it just revealed. This is a novel looking at just how bad the world can get, and as you can see, especially from the last quote, the world has become very harsh. Anna is the protagonist, and her quote is actually taken from a prayer. The second quote might not seem like much out of context, but inside of the story it goes far to show the brutality of the new world. (Also, because Cold Hands is the featured novel on my blog, there is a lot of extra content for it. Check out the table of contents (ToC) to find it!)
Hope is after all no more than wishes, and wishes, when unsupported by action, are nothing more than empty thoughts.
– Samuel Dalus
As I said when I first started writing it, Right Behind You is not a horror story. XP Not that I have anything against horror stories, it just isn’t one. There is not much in terms of chapters out for this story, though I believe I have written some seventeen thousand words for it. This is partially science fiction, though not too much, and follows the story of wheelchair-ridden genius and billionaire, Samuel Dalus as he discovers a new race, the Unseen.
Alright! That’s it. Hopefully one of these intrigues you. I look forward to seeing more of you guys on my blog. 🙂
